Altran, global leader in engineering and R&D services, is promoting, through the Altran Foundation for Innovation, six projects to help fight against COVID-19 for the most disadvantaged groups. More than 300 employees participate voluntarily in the manufacture of medical material using 3D printing, research into technological applications for detecting or predicting coronavirus, support for the elderly, the donation of technological material and the production of digital educational and training pills.

The charity activities are being developed in collaboration with public administrations, clients, partners and third sector entities "to guarantee their impact on the groups they are targeting", in the words of Luis Abad, CEO of Altran Spain and President of the Altran Foundation for Innovation, who assures that "the common objective of these initiatives is to improve the working conditions of medical professionals, the elderly, children at risk of social exclusion and the foundations that help the most vulnerable groups".

The first and most advanced of the projects is the engineering and 3D printing of medical material, where 70 volunteers are already working. This project is being carried out in the provinces of Madrid, Cadiz, Seville and Barcelona, with a manufacturing capacity of more than 300 protective screens every day. The production is intended for hospitals and senior centers and is collected and distributed in collaboration with regional governments. For the development of this project Altran is collaborating and joining forces with partners and customers on the same front. Regarding Cadiz, Altran is collaborating with Navantia in the engineering process for 3D printing and printing through its network of volunteers. At the moment, also managements are being made to begin to produce sanitary material in other independent communities in collaboration with different partners.

Likewise, the Altran Foundation for Innovation is promoting two technology-based initiatives to detect or predict COVID-19. For the development of these initiatives, there is a multidisciplinary team in coordination with medical professionals and researchers. On the one hand, in a Machine Learning model in which from X-ray images it is possible to detect if a patient is infected. On the other hand, we are collaborating with the medical services of a reference hospital in Madrid by working on data analysis with the aim of starting to develop predictive mathematical models that will allow us to improve the management of the disease.

Furthermore, more than 150 volunteers are collaborating with the Red Cross through three initiatives aimed at the two determining groups in this situation: the elderly and children at risk of social exclusion.
