Any-Shape has started serial production of 3D printed nasopharyngeal swabs for covid-19 detection.

From the beginning of the pandemic in Europe, a large shortage of collection devices, mainly nasopharyngeal swabs, was observed in Belgium but also in many European countries. In fact, the majority (> 90%) of the swabs used worldwide under different labels are manufactured by a single Italian company.

Any-Shape has completely redesigned a swab to allow it to be produced entirely by 3D printing. A clinical study was conducted with the CHU of Liège on the basis of this new swab, first in the laboratory, then on more than one hundred patients. The results were positive and led to the validation of this swab by the FAMHP for immediate marketing. The final design is now patented. The current demand is huge. Any-Shape is currently producing nearly 100,000 swabs per week and expect to produce more than 1 million swabs in the following weeks.’
