The ATAG Global Sustainable Aviation Forum will take place in Montreal on 13 May 2019. The Forum will bring together some 200 experts and leaders from airlines, airports, aircraft and engine manufacturers, air navigation service providers, aviation suppliers, environmental groups and governments to discuss the sustainable development of aviation.
2019 marks the start of emissions monitoring requirements for airlines under ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). This is an important landmark for the aviation industry which sees CORSIA as a critical element of its strategy to mitigate aviation’s impact on climate change. CORSIA is also a reminder that aviation relies upon the strong international cooperation and multilateralism which underpin the Chicago Convention.
Taking place four months before the 2019 ICAO Assembly, the ATAG Global Sustainable Aviation Forum will provide delegates with a unique opportunity to engage with industry representatives, government stakeholders and environmental groups to discuss the upcoming negotiations.
The topics to be addressed at the ATAG Forum will include the role of technology and sustainable aviation fuels in reducing aviation’s CO2 emissions, next steps and challenges for CORSIA, air transport as part of broader sustainable mobility, noise management, prospects for electric and hybrid aircraft, issues of regional importance with representatives from the ICAO Council and more.
