ASD introduces its newly elected leadership

ASD today announces the following leadership transition, based on decisions by the Association’s Board at its 2025 Convention, hosted by its UK member association ADS, in London:

Micael Johansson, CEO of Saab, has been elected as ASD President and Chairman of the Board, effective 15 June 2025. He succeeds Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, and will serve a two-year term.

Eric Béranger, CEO of MBDA, has been elected Vice-Chairman of the ASD Board, effective June 15, also for a two-year term. He will assume this role from Micael Johansson.

Camille Grand, Distinguished Policy Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations and former Assistant Secretary General for Defence Investment at NATO, has been elected ASD Secretary General, with a targeted start date of 1 September 2025. He succeeds Jan Pie, who will retire after serving in this capacity since 2013. To support a smooth and seamless transition, Mr Pie will remain in a consulting role through the end of the year.

These elections reflect ASD’s commitment to advancing its mission through experienced leadership, ensuring continuity while navigating the transformation of an industry of strategic importance amid challenging geopolitical, economic and technological developments.

The ASD Board extends its sincere thanks to outgoing President Guillaume Faury for his exemplary
leadership throughout his tenure, and wishes to express its special appreciation to outgoing Secretary General Jan Pie for his exceptional impact in transforming ASD into a highly respected voice for our industries, both in Europe and globally, since taking the helm in 2013.

The Board warmly congratulates Micael Johansson and Eric Béranger on their new roles, and particularly Camille Grand on his election as the incoming Secretary General. It looks forward to continuing its work with the new leadership team.

Micael Johansson, CEO of Saab and President- and Chairman-elect of the ASD Board

"It is a privilege to lead ASD at this crucial time. We must work together, across borders and industries, to address the complex challenges facing Europe. ASD will be a strong advocate for policies that foster innovation, promote cooperation, and ensure a thriving and globally competitive European aerospace, defence, and security sector. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Guillaume Faury and Jan Pie for their exceptional leadership and dedication to ASD. I look forward to continuing to build ASD as a strong voice in civil aviation, security and defence as we navigate the future together."

Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus and outgoing ASD President

“It has been an honour to lead ASD during a period of profound transformation for our industries. Together with Micael Johansson and Jan Pie, we have worked to ensure that Europe’s aerospace, defence, and security sectors are recognised for their strategic importance and remain competitive in a rapidly evolving global landscape. I believe we can be proud of the progress we have made, especially in reinforcing ASD’s role as a trusted voice with policymakers and institutions. I wish Micael and the new leadership team every success in the years ahead.”

Eric Béranger, CEO of MBDA and Vice-Chairman-edlect of the ASD Board

“Thanks to the ASD Board for their trust and confidence in what we will achieve together, with Micael and the team, in the coming two years. In an increasingly uncertain and challenging geopolitical climate, our industry is more committed than ever to contribute to strengthen Europe’s sovereignty, security and competitiveness whilst generating long-term economic, technological, and social value across the continent. Advocacy for our specific needs and resilience efforts, in particular to support rearming ambitions, along with strengthened engagement with EU institutions, are critical to shaping policies that maximise the capabilities of Europe’s aeronautics, space and defence ecosystem.”

Camille Grand, incoming Secretary General of ASD

“I am deeply grateful to the ASD Board and General Assembly for the trust placed in me. It is an honour to take on this new role. I look forward to working closely with our members, the ASD team, and institutions and regulatory bodies at both EU and global levels, aimed at fostering collaboration and shaping the policy and regulatory conditions necessary to ensure our industry remains at the forefront of global security and technological advancement in a rapidly evolving environment.”

Jan Pie, outgoing ASD Secretary General

“As I reflect on more than a decade with ASD, I am proud of all we have accomplished as ASD together with its members, well aware of the scale of the challenges ahead. I am confident that the incoming leadership will guide ASD through them successfully. I will pass the baton to Camille Grand, a renowned expert in the field, and extend my thanks to the ASD team and the entire ASD community for their dedication and hard work over the years.”
