ASD Statement on the Defence Readiness Roadmap 2030
ASD responds to the EU Defence Readiness Roadmap 2030, supporting joint procurement, capability gaps prioritisation, and flagship projects to strengthen Europe's defence industry and readiness by 2030.
ASD supports the objective of European defence readiness by 2030. The Joint communication of the European Commission and HR/VP developing a plan that translates readiness objectives into concrete milestones, with timelines and indicators, reflects the urgency of the task ahead.
Prioritising identified capability gaps and improving efficiencies through working together in a structured manner, joint procurement and flagship projects is the right approach.
We also welcome the roadmap’s recognition for the need of a strong and innovative European defence industry as a critical pillar of European defence readiness and strongly endorse the view that “a strong, resilient and technologically innovative industrial base, with its roots in the EU, is a key component of Europe’s deterrence and both its physical and economic security”.
ASD reiterates that the European defence industry is fully committed, capable, ready to continue developing critical capabilities, including through flagships projects, and to further ramp up production, deliver at pace, and meet Europe’s and its NATO allies’ defence needs with state-of-the-art equipment and solutions.
We look forward to the upcoming meeting of the European Council and expect Heads of State and Government to provide the strategic guidance necessary to move swiftly from ambition to implementation.
ASD remains fully engaged and ready to work with the Commission, Member States, and partners across Europe to turn this roadmap into coordinated, effective action.
