ASD welcomes Council of the EU position to incentivise defence-related investments
ASD welcomes an EU Council position to boost defence investments across major EU programmes under the ReArm Europe plan, aiming to strengthen Europe’s defence industrial base and security.
This week, EU Member States approved a Council position to open key EU programmes to more defence-related investments as part of the ReArm Europe plan. The amendments target five programmes: Digital Europe, Horizon Europe, the European Defence Fund, the Connecting Europe Facility, and the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP). The Council also introduced eligibility adjustments for dual-use and defence-related activities under Horizon Europe to align rules across instruments.
ASD issued a statement welcoming the Council’s agreement as an important step towards strengthening the EDTIB:
"ASD welcomes today’s agreement by the Council of the EU on the possible use of several EU funding programmes for defence-related investments as part of the ReArm Europe plan. This is an important step towards strengthening the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base, which is indispensable to Europe’s security and strategic sovereignty. We encourage the Council and the European Parliament to finalise the package swiftly."
