Inclusion of Sustainable Aviation Fuel in EU's Net-Zero Industry Act only the first step
The five leading European aviation associations representing Europe’s airlines, airports, civil aeronautics industry and air navigation service providers, which are close partners through the Destination 2050 alliance – A4E, ACI EUROPE, ASD, CANSO Europe, and ERA – welcomed the inclusion of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) as a strategic decarbonization project in the EU's Net Zero Industry Act. This inclusion is seen as the first step towards developing a strong, globally competitive EU SAF market, which is crucial for the industry to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
However, the industry is calling for further action by policymakers to ensure that Europe becomes a world leader in the production and uptake of SAF. This includes the extension of policy incentives and increased financial support for the development of SAF, as well as simplifying the administrative procedures for accessing these funds. The industry emphasizes that SAFs are a crucial component that will enable European aviation to accelerate its decarbonization in line with the EU's ambitious climate agenda.
