Aircraft symbolising global aviation cooperation and innovation in the aerospace industry, as ASD’s Jan Pie assumes ICCAIA Chair

Global aviation cooperation in focus as ASD’s Jan Pie assumes ICCAIA Chair

ASD’s Jan Pie assumes the role of Chair of the International Coordinating Council of Aerospace Industries Associations (ICCAIA), emphasising global aviation industry cooperation. Under his leadership, ICCAIA continues to advance initiatives focused on sustainability, safety, and workforce development, reinforcing the industry’s commitment to a safer and more sustainable aviation future

Leadership of the International Coordinating Council of Aerospace Industries Associations (ICCAIA) has returned to Europe, with Jan Pie, Secretary General of ASD), assuming the role of Chair. This follows ICCAIA’s tradition of alternating leadership every two years between ASD and the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) of the United States, reflecting the transatlantic partnership at the heart of the global aerospace industry.

ICCAIA serves as the global voice of the aerospace manufacturing industry, working closely with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to shape policies that prioritise safety, sustainability, and innovation in aviation. As the European representative within ICCAIA, ASD’s leadership highlights Europe’s commitment to these global objectives, ensuring collaboration across regions to tackle critical challenges in aviation.

ICCAIA’s achievements

Under the previous Chair, Eric Fanning of AIA, ICCAIA further advanced several initiatives:

Advancing sustainability: ICCAIA joined the International Aviation Climate Ambition Coalition, underscoring its commitment to supporting ICAO's efforts to reduce aviation’s environmental footprint. ICCAIA has also contributed to initiatives addressing emissions reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainable fuels.

Aviation safety standards: through active participation in ICAO panels and working groups, ICCAIA helped drive progress on safety-critical issues, including airworthiness, advanced air mobility (AAM), and operational security. This work enhances aviation safety for passengers across the world.

Strengthening workforce development: through initiatives such as the Global Aviation and Aerospace Skills Taskforce, ICCAIA has been working on addressing workforce challenges in the industry, focusing on skills development and diversity to secure the future of aviation.

Supporting public health and facilitation: ICCAIA contributed to ICAO protocols for managing public health crises, enabling ever more resilient air travel during global emergencies.

These achievements underscore ICCAIA’s critical role in fostering an aviation ecosystem that prioritises safety and sustainability for all.

Jan Pie’s vision

As Chair, Jan Pie brings extensive experience and a long-standing commitment to advancing international collaboration in aerospace. Jan Pie said: “ICCAIA’s work is vital not only for the aerospace industry but for the billions of people who rely on aviation every year.” “Together with

ICAO and our global partners, we will ensure that aviation remains a safe, sustainable, and accessible mode of transport for the future.” Mr. Pie has previously chaired ICCAIA during three terms.

About ICCAIA

ICCAIA unites national and regional aerospace associations to represent industry perspectives to ICAO, the United Nations agency responsible for aviation safety, security, and environmental standards. Leadership alternates every two years between ASD and AIA, reflecting the importance of transatlantic collaboration by the aerospace industry. By uniting associations from across the globe, ICCAIA ensures that the collective voice of the aerospace manufacturing sector is heard on the world stage.
